The Droog Collection Mercedes Benz Brooches Series Brooch

This is a brooch. It was designed by Ted Noten. It is dated 2003 and we acquired it in 2016. Its medium is fragment cut from painted steel body of a mercedes benz. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

For this brooch series Noten cut fragments out of the body of a Mercedes Benz, turning each fragment into a desirable brooch merely through its association with this luxury automobile. Noten’s intent is to democratize jewelry so that everyone can enjoy the status of a luxury object.

This object was donated by Susan Lewin. It is credited The Susan Grant Lewin Collection, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.
