Spirit With 3 Legs Brooch
This is a brooch. It was designed by Arline Fisch. It is dated 1988 and we acquired it in 2016. Its medium is woven silver and gold, agate. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Through her studies of weaving and inspired by gold sewn into pre-Colombian textiles, Fisch invented processes combining metalsmithing skills with textile techniques to create jewelry that has influenced generations of jewelry makers. Some of Fisch’s works hold symbolic references, such as this brooch inspired by Australian Aboriginal burial poles.
