Model, Knitted Textile Pavilion, PolyThread
This is a Model, knitted textile pavilion. It was designed by Jenny E. Sabin and Jenny Sabin Studio. It is dated 2015. Its medium is 3d-printed nylon.
Sabin’s architectural forms are inspired by nature and mathematics. Shown here is a model for PolyThread (2016), a temporary pavilion commissioned for Beauty—Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial. This knitted textile structure employs photoluminescent and solar active yarns that absorb, collect, and deliver light. Portable and lightweight, such a structure could be used outdoors to absorb light from the sun during the day and release it at night.
