Print dealer and publisher, the greatest publisher of the century; son of Pierre Mariette I (q.v.); married Madeleine, the widow of François Langlois (q.v.), in 1655 and managed the Langlois business at the 'Colonnes d'Hercules'. In 1657 settled at his father's address (rue st Jacques à l'Espérance) of which he owned a quarter, before buying all the remaining shares in 1663. In 1658, bought the 'Colonnes d'Hercules', and for a while rented it to a hat-maker then to a book-seller before passing it to his son Jean in 1691.

A portrait of St Matthew. He has very long flowing white hair with an accompaning white beard. He has a halo over his head. He is wearing a cape over his shoulders. He is working at his desk. He is dipping his quill pen into the ink container with his right hand while with his left hand is holding down a page in his book. The book is laid open upon a raised platform. In front of the platform are several books as well. Over St. Matthew's left shoulder, there is a cherub looking at him in a quizzical and playful manner. At the bottom of the print can be seen the following text in big bold block letters: S.Mathevus. Below the name can be seen text in cursive which reads as follows: Corn.Vifcher Inveniebat in the lower left hand corner. In the lower right hand corner there is cursive text that reads as follows: Corn.Vifcher Suclpebat et Excudebat Harlem 1650.
