Francis Lycett

Francis Lycett is the son of Edward Lycett who noted historian Edwin Barber called “the pioneer of china painting in America.” Edward apprenticed at the firm of Copeland and Garrett at Stoke-on-Trent and examples of his work were exhibited at the Great Exhibition in 1851. Edward arrived in the United States in 1861 and worked in New York, Saint Louis, Missouri and Cincinnati and East Liverpool, Ohio. From boyhood, Francis assisted his father teaching china painting classes. In 1885 or 1886 Francis joined the Faience Manufacturing Company, where Edward was art director. As of 1896, Francis taught ceramics in Buffalo, New York.
