Nanna Ditzel was born in Copenhagen where she attended the School of Arts and Crafts and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. She trained as a cabinetmaker and majored in furniture design. In 1946, she established a design studio with Jørgen Ditzel. Nanna worked in a variety of techniques and materials, such as fiberglass, wickerwork, and foam rubber. She designed jewelry, furniture, textiles, and applied art. Between 1968 and 1986, Nanna lived in London, where she and Kurt Heide established the furniture house, Interspace in Hapstead.
