Moss Rose Mfg. Co

Moss Rose Mfg. Co was founded in Philadelphia by Berthold Strauss (1897-?). The company produced upholstery fabrics for interior decoration and automobile. An influent textile manufacturer, Berthold Strauss actively encouraged the creative development of his industry. He was a member of the selection committee along with Alexander Girard for the “Good Design” home furnishing exhibition at MOMA in 1950. Prior to that, he appeared as an advisor of the Upholstery and Floor Coverings classes at the Philadelphia Textile School of the Pennsylvanian Museum of Art in 1935-1936. Moss Rose Mfg. Co was also featured in the exhibition “Textiles USA” that took place at MOMA in 1956.
