The Queen stands facing forward with her hands on her hips, her face outlined in white with full white lips and shoulder-length hair curled at the bottom. She wears an abstract crown, formed from a horizontal white trapezium lying across her forehead, a vertical black trapezium outlined in white, with a semi-circle cut out in the mid right, growing vertically upwards from he white trapezium, and a tall thin white cone ascending from the middle of the white trapezium with a small white ball on top. Her torso is covered with an asymmetrical black and white jacket, with large shoulder pads; her right side white with black dots on the shoulder pads and black wavy horizontal lines across the waist, and her left side the opposite, black with white dots on the shoulder pads and white wavy horizontal lines across the waist. Large black geometric panels are found growing from either side of the waist and we see stripy black and white sleeves on her left arm as her hand touches her hips. A black cape decorated with white teardrop shapes flows from the waist and falls full length across her right leg, while the left leg exposes a white stocking with a black crown motif at the knee. The designer has inscribed [BLACK Queen/'Checkmate'] in white gouache in the lower right, with the word BLACK in capital letters. He has also signed and dated the work [E.
