Industrial Development Engineering Associates, Regency Division

The Industrial Development Engineering Associates (I.D.E.A.) was a consulting firm in Indianapolis founded in 1945 by two former RCA engineers Joe Weaver and John Pies. The company incorporated in 1947. A TV signal booster was the company’s first profitable product. A number of divisions were introduced in the mid-1950s: the Monitoradio Division, which built emergency frequency band receivers; the Regency Division, best known for the TI-1, the first transistor radio; and The Radell Division, the resistor manufacturing group, which was sold and transferred to Texas Instruments, Inc. in 1955.
