Arthur P. Stern was born in 1925 in Budapest, Hungary. Before WWII he studied law at the University of Budapest and during the war, he and his family were imprisoned at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. After the war, he decided to study electrical engineering—a field in which he would eventually become a prominent figure--at both the University of Lausanne and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. In 1951, he immigrated to the United States and began working the General Electric's Electronics Laboratory. A rectangular, black molded plastic transistor radio with circular perforations fior the speaker covering the bottom two-thirds of the front face, with a brass circular dial at the top right for adjusting the frequency and a white plastic dial at the top left for power, volume and tuning control. The word Regency is written in grey script with a crown symbol above it on the left just above the perforations.
