Ted Noten originally started working as a bricklayer and a psychiatric nurse, before enrolling into the Maastricht Academy for Applied Arts in 1983 to pursue art and jewelry design. He obtained his degree from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam in 1990, and began pursuing a career in art and design. Influenced by the work of Marcel Duchamp, Francis Bacon, and Damien Hirst, Noten’s work focuses on conceptual topics and critiques of established traditions in art and jewelry design. Noten came to international prominence with his 1995 pendant Turbo Princess, which featured a small mouse wearing a pearl necklace, which was cast in acrylic. Red, rectangular piece of stainless steel cut from an E-class 210 Mercedes Benz with a slightly wavy contour and glossy surface; the reverse with unpainted metal closures is barely visible.

A white cord, tied and knotted with approximately two-inch ends, is looped through a smalll hole at the top of a clear, rectangular plexiglass cube-pendant which contains a centered grouping of a black housefly with outstretched wings and dangling legs suspended above a round, white lustrous pearl.

A thin gold necklace cord connects to a clasp of white spikey animal fur with some brownish tips, a flat, lozenge-shaped snakeskin 'bead' on the right, and the front of a pair of slightly tarnished silver plated eyeglass frames and lenses.
