Pierre Paulin started his career as a ceramicist and had his debut as an interior decorator and furniture designers at the Salon des arts ménagers in 1953. In 1954, he worked for Thonet and in about 1958 he joined Artifort in Maastricht with whom he produced the Mushroom chair (1960) among a number of other seating designs.

A one piece orange chair sitting on the floor in the form of the front of a tongue on both the back and lower segment. The curvaceous structure resembles a wavelength where the trough functions as the seat and the crest buttresses the knees and is lower than the back. The photograph captures a ¾ view enabling the viewer to see the front, side and top of the chair against a light gray ground with shadows.
