Many people dressed in renaissance clothing are gathered in the foreground of this horizontal outdoor scene. They are mostly grouped in twos and threes, some seated, and some standing. Two figures to the left of center, are the focal point of the scene, with almost all the other figures either looking at them, or with body language (posture, gesture) toward their direction. The focal pair is a woman (left) and a man (right). The woman is Mary Magdalene, and is indicated as such by a halo of light emanating from behind her head. She wears a long dress with ornate, billowing sleeves. She holds the hand of her companion, who wears knee-length robes and sandals, and carries a wide-brimmed hat in his other hand, at his side. To the right of this pair, and slightly behind them, a musical pair with drum and flute stands beside a large tree, the canopy of which is cut off by the margin of the page. Other groups of figures are seated together lounging or in conversation, or are otherwise walking among the trees. The middle-ground, visible behind this scene, is much lighter, and shows people on horseback and dogs chasing a stag in a clear, hilly landscape. A large, rocky protrusion appears in the far distance.
