Drawing, Design for Embroidery, Gentleman's Waistcoat Pocket

This is a Drawing. It was designed by Mademoiselle Calva and made for Fabrique de Saint Ruf. It is dated ca. 1785 and we acquired it in 1920. Its medium is brush and gouache, pen and brown ink, graphite on cream laid paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.



Pattern 1734 by Saint Ruf shows the bottom corner of a waistcoat that features fantastical birds in pursuit of colorful insects.

This object was donated by Eleanor Garnier Hewitt and Sarah Cooper Hewitt. It is credited Gift of Eleanor and Sarah Hewitt.
