Armchair With Slip Seat (USA)

This is a Armchair with slip seat. It was made by John Hewitt. It is dated ca. 1820 and we acquired it in 1938. Its medium is turned joined mahogany-veneered oak, horse hair upholstery (probably replaced). It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

The maker of this chair was the Hewitt sisters’ paternal grandfather.

This object was donated by Norvin Hewitt Green. It is credited Gift of Norvin Hewitt Green.
