Sampler (USA)

This is a Sampler. It was embroidered by Mary Hamilton, American and student at Miss Catharine Welshans School. It is dated 1812 and we acquired it in 1970. Its medium is silk and metal thread embroidery on linen foundation and its technique is embroidered in satin, cross, running, stem, and rococo stitches with figure eight looping on plain weave foundation. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was bequest of Emily Coe Stowell. It is credited Bequest of Emily Coe Stowell from the Coe Collection.
