Bronze pot. At the top of the body, extending to the bottom and back up, is a curved pattern, consisting of multiple small curved lines, clustered together to resemble a curved vine. Curling off of the vine-like shape are small, curved circles, each placed in an evenly-spaced way throughout the length of the vine-like shape.

This is a Cache-pot. It was designed by Edgar Brandt. It is dated ca. 1921-22 and we acquired it in 1975. Its medium is cast and wrought bronze. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This cachepot’s shape bears resemblance to the ancient Greek form of the kylix, a two-handled drinking cup. Winding volutes and vine-like handles hint at the cachepot’s function of holding a plant. Following the 1925 Paris exposition, Brandt opened a gallery in Paris, and a showroom in New York called Ferrobrandt.

Wrought iron rectilinear door with carved and pierced flowers, leaves and vines. The designs have reference to Persian manuscript sources as well as contemporary textile designs of the 1920’s. The later addition of feet made it able to stand-alone.
