Abstract Sunburst Reserve with Tear Drop Border Matchsafe

This is a matchsafe. It was manufactured by Gorham Manufacturing Company. It is dated ca. 1886 and we acquired it in 1978. Its medium is silver gilt, enamel. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was donated by Stephen W. Brener and Carol B. Brener. It is credited Gift of Stephen W. Brener and Carol B. Brener.

Its dimensions are

4.4 x 3.7 x .8 cm (1 3/4 x 1 7/16 x 5/16 in. )

It has the following markings

Lion passant, anchor, upper-case gothic G, STERLING, 465 all stamped on bezel, reverse bezel features square with double border and Maltese-style cross at center (possible date mark for 1886? - see notes.)
