Sidewall (USA)

This is a sidewall. It is dated 1840s and we acquired it in 1956. Its medium is block-printed paper. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.

An elaborate imitation stone design with a trellis or diaper pattern printed over the veining. The pattern follows in the tradition of damask papers and creates a warmer, less severe design than the more typical ashlar block renderings. Also, the use of red, white and blue creates a certain cheerfulness not typically found on faux marble papers.

This object was donated by Mrs. Adrienne A. Sheridan. It is credited Gift of Mrs. Adrienne A. Sheridan.

Its dimensions are

H x W: 69.5 x 51.5 cm (27 3/8 x 20 1/4in.)
