This is a beaker. It was produced by Tiffany Studios and the design director was Louis Comfort Tiffany. It is dated ca. 1910 and we acquired it in 1962. Its medium is blown favrile glass. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Tiffany’s Favrile glass, patented in 1894, provided the perfect complement to his Art Nouveau forms. This mouth-blown vase’s twisted nodules – inspired by nature, as was the basis of the Art Nouveau style – catch the light on an otherwise flat surface, swirling the iridescent glass’ colors and creating movement.
