Drawing, Two Designs for Decoration of Boxes, Tor di Nona Theater, Rome

This is a Drawing. It was designed by Giuseppe Valadier. It is dated 1819 and we acquired it in 1938. Its medium is pen and gray ink, watercolor, over pencil. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

In 1819, a gala evening was given in the Tor di Nona in honor of Francesco I of Austria. Two operas were presented: Isabella e Florange by Pacini and Merope by Maffei.

It is credited Museum purchase through gift of various donors and from Eleanor G. Hewitt Fund.
