Map Sampler (England)

This is a Map sampler. It was embroidered by Elizabeth Milner and school of Mrs. Watson. It is dated 1797 and we acquired it in 1941. Its medium is silk embroidery on linen foundation and its technique is stem, chain, and satin stitches on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was bequest of Mrs. Henry E. Coe. It is credited Bequest of Mrs. Henry E. Coe.

Its dimensions are

42 x 44.5 cm (16 9/16 x 17 1/2 in.)

It is inscribed

within a wreath at the upper right hand corner "England and Wales Wrought at Mrs. Watson's school Leeds 1797 bytElizabeth Milner"
