The detailed use of glowing light, shadow, and color in this printed wallpaper border create the illusion of a realistic hanging fringe. The top of the fringe is a wide band patterned with overlapping triangles and little round medallions. A scalloped border along the bottom leads to the heavy twisted fringe, accented with long dangling ornaments at evenly-spaced intervals. The fringe appears to drape slightly, as if resting on a flat surface, and to bend forward and backward in space. The forward segments are marked with large tassels hanging from ornamental knots at the top of the band. The various textures of the trompe l’oeil fringe are rendered in golden yellow, yellow-orange, ochre, warm browns, and bright orange.
