Copper-wire Cloth Shielding Fabric (USA)

This is a Copper-wire cloth shielding fabric. It was manufactured by Sefar America Incorporated. It is dated 2003 and we acquired it in 2005. Its medium is copper and polyester and its technique is plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

Woven copper wire cloth is an excellent shielding fabric against electromagnetic interference in conference rooms and in hospitals. Unlike a traditional decorative fabric, this shielding fabric is used like a liner behind sheetrock or between other layers of textiles. The textile’s measure of success is not based on beauty but on how well it performs as a safeguard for equipment such as computers and other electronics.
This shielding fabric, manufactured by Sefar America Incorporated in 2003, was part of the 2005 exhibition Extreme Textiles: Designing for High Performance. The textile demonstrates that as we test and ultimately push the physical boundaries in which we live and work, it is necessary to augment our tools as well as our bodies with protective coverings that can insure operability and survival.
