Drawing, Woman and Dog
This is a Drawing. It was created by Christina Malman. It is dated 1935 and we acquired it in 1947. Its medium is brush and ink, graphite on cream wove paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
Christina Malman attended the School of Fine and Applied Arts at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. She is best known for her illustration work at the New Yorker. Malman produced over twenty four covers for the magazine between 1937 and 1956. This drawing was published in the December 28, 1935 issue, when the artist was just beginning her career. It was an original design for a "spot" in the New Yorker - small illustrations that occupy spaces between articles.
It is credited Museum purchase through gift of Charles W. Gould.
