Sampler

This is a Sampler. It was embroidered by Isabell Lawry. It is dated 1686 and we acquired it in 1981. Its medium is silk and linen embroidery on linen foundation and its technique is embroidered in cross, long armed cross, satin and eyelet stitches on plain weave foundation; bands of withdrawn element work with needle made fillings (reticella); overcasting creating areas of deflected element work. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was bequest of Gertrude M. Oppenheimer. It is credited Bequest of Gertrude M. Oppenheimer.
