Drawing, Design for Utility Vehicle with One-Piece Fiberglass Body, August 1963

This is a Drawing. It was designed by Earl E. Hoyt Jr. and from the office of Donald Deskey Associates. It is dated August 1963 and we acquired it in 1988. Its medium is cello-tak, black and gray magic marker, black color pencil, graphite on off-white illustration board. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

Since the dominance of streets by cars at the beginning of the 20th century, American designers have persistently envisioned a future of better-designed cities navigated by futuristic vehicles.

The production and distribution of frozen food was only just beginning in the 1960s, and designer Earl E. Hoyt, Jr. explored the topic as a student before joining Donald Deskey Associates. The special needs of transporting frozen freight may explain Hoyt’s exploration of this unusual form, likely designed to transport flash-frozen foods to supermarkets.

This object was donated by Donald Deskey. It is credited Gift of Donald Deskey.
