Sugar Fruit Bowl
This is a Fruit bowl. It was designed by Ettore Sottsass. It is dated 1987 and we acquired it in 1988. Its medium is molded porcelain. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Product designer and architect Sottsass had enormous influence on Italian design in the second half of the twentieth century, as he was well known for his bold, geometric work. This bowl exemplifies his often whimsical style in its unusual form, redefining the bowl as a disc-shaped dish with a dozen rounded protrusions forming its rim. This bowl would have been used to hold and display fruit.
It is credited Museum purchase from Sir Arthur Bryan Fund.
Its dimensions are
H x diam.: 8.5 x 31 cm (3 3/8 x 12 3/16 in.)
