Beaver and Fox Figure

This is a figure. It was manufactured by Lomonosov Porcelain Factory. It is dated ca. 1950 and we acquired it in 1989. Its medium is porcelain, enamel. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

It is credited The Henry and Ludmilla Shapiro Collection; Partial gift and partial purchase through the Decorative Arts Association Acquisition and Smithsonian Collections Acquisition Program Funds.

Vanity case with deep green jadeite sides and inlaid top. The scene depicts a red-orange carved coral and gold fox in a mother-of-pearl landscape. The fox stands on a softly variegated cliff jutting up from bottom right, facing the small white moon and swirling clouds in a pale pinkish sky. A delicate gold tree with black and blue-green shell foliage strikes up at right; more foliage peeks in at left and bottom. A diamond border encloses the scene, with a diamond thumbpiece centered below.
