Lounge Chair (Denmark)
This is a Lounge chair. It was designed by Nanna Ditzel and Jorgen Ditzel and manufactured by Ludvig Pontoppidan. It is dated ca. 1950 and we acquired it in 1990. Its medium is teak and wicker. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel were the leading post-war Danish designers of wicker furniture. Their experimental designs won numerous awards including silver medals at the Milan Triennale in 1951 and 1957 and a gold medal in 1960. The organic form of this chair served as a precursor to one of their best-selling designs, a hanging wicker chair. The open oval form allows for the user to sit in a variety of ways.
It is credited Museum purchase from Decorative Arts Association Acquisition Fund.
