Textile, Punchinello

This is a Textile. It was designed by Contessa Friedlinde di Colbertaldo Dinzl and manufactured by Edinburgh Weavers. It is dated 1960 and we acquired it in 1993. Its medium is cotton and its technique is screen printed on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

A white square-shaped tote bag with thin handles that stick straight up out of the top center. The polyurethane coating of the bag is embedded with pieces of cut silk selvedges, the edge produced on woven fabric during manufacture that prevents it from unravelling, in multiple colors, including bright turquoise, emerald green, ruby red, canary yellow, soft lilac, pale brown and olive green.
