Drawing, Pontiac GTO Concept
This is a Drawing. It was designed by George Camp and from the office of General Motors. It is dated 1969 and we acquired it in 2017. Its medium is color pencil, marker, graphite on paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
Pontiac's GTO was first produced in 1964. The car is an iconic example of an American "muscle car." Its name, however, was adopted from rival Italian company Ferrari's Gran Turismo Omolgato (GT) which translates to Grand Touring Homolgation. The Pontiac version was not a true racing-car like its Italian inspiration, but it took both physical and associative cues from the Ferrari. The result was a sleek car that exuded power and speed. In this drawing, Camp's GTO concept features a lean coupe with cat-like side windows that seems to pulse with momentum.
