Textile, Frost Garden

This is a Textile. It was designed by Akira Minagawa and made for minä perhonen. It is dated 2014 and we acquired it in 2018. Its medium is foundation 100% cotton; outline embroidery 10% cotton; interior embroidery 60% acrylic, 40% wool and its technique is embroidered on twill weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

The creations of Japanese fashion designer Akira Minagawa express a deep connection to the natural landscape and a profound respect for handcraft. His clothing brand, minä perhonen, is noted for its delicate, poetic fabrics, which are designed by Minagawa himself. He designs fabrics that spark the senses and the imagination. Frost Garden evokes a winter morning, when the landscape is covered in a glistening crust of ice. The sparkling silver yarns are combined with a variety of different embroidery stitches to create crystalline textures.

This object was donated by minä perhonen. It is credited Gift from MINA CO., Ltd..
