Brompton Folding Bicycle

This is a Folding Bicycle. It was designed by Andrew Ritchie. It is dated 2016 and we acquired it in 2016. Its medium is assembled bent, brazed and lacquered tubular steel (frame) and titanium (mudguards), synthetic (saddle), molded rubber and kevlar (tires). It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Recently there has been heightened interest in folding bicycles as a way to address urban transportation and environmental issues. The Brompton bike, which can be folded in a simple 4-step operation, owes its durability to robust design and craftsmanship. Rather than being welded, the frame's joints are brazed, a process that consists of a broad heating of the base metal area, allowing the filler metal to be drawn through the entire joint, resulting in a stronger connection.

A transportation device fabricated in aluminum and carbon composite and painted in bright shiny red paint with a white seat, black matt handbrakes, both circular rearview mirrors, floor mat, both tires and double kickstand are all black. There is a substantial silver hinge located on the center of the foot area enabling the scooter to fold the scooter. There is one headlight centered on the front body/fender. The manufacturer’s name “MOVEO” is inscribed in white small letters below the headlight and in larger letters on the back body covering the tire. The M and E in “MOVEO” have rounded edges where right angles usually are formed. The Scooter is photographed against a stark white ground and faces left.

A well-balanced vehicle in the form of a bicycle customized in the front for use with transporting a wheelchair and person, an option for mobility. A person rides the mostly steel framed vehicle with an electric motor pack attached to an outer frame surrounding the back tire. The front of the vehicle is a platform with smaller wheels than the back one, its function is to scoop up the wheelchair with or without a person to transport to another destination. The photograph is shot in daylight and the vehicle is riding on a sidewalk overgrown with greenery and trees in the background. The vehicle is facing right and the two smiling people are engaging the viewer and are wearing bluejeans and blue tops.
