An asymmetrical necklace made up of micro beads in yellow, blue, green and orange. Throughout the entire necklace, the micro beads form circles and loops of various sizes joined together. The majority of the necklace consists of yellow micro beads while using pops green and orange details. Looking at the necklace, there is a figure on the left side that appears to represent a person dancing or in an forward lunging position. The figure is made up of indigo colored micro beads along with yellow circular details. The figure also has red micro beads that form lips and a few white beads that make up the eye.

Necklace

This is a necklace. It is dated 2000s. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

African American Joyce Scott introduces strong social undercurrents in her colorful beaded jewelry that are both cartoonish yet deeply felt. Her sculptural neckpiece using a unique African-American quilting technique, the peyote stitch, challenges the viewer to consider issues of gender, race, and class from a different perspective.
