Brooch, ca. 1922

This is a brooch. It was manufactured by Wiener Werkstätte.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Metropolitan Museum of Art as part of The Jazz Age: American Style in the 1920s.

It is dated ca. 1922. Its medium is gold and mother-of-pearl.

Peche’s first contributions to the Wiener Werkstätte were designs for textiles and wallpaper. Soon his work included jewelry, furniture, glass, graphic design, and more. This brooch, acquired by The Metropolitan Museum of Art apparently from the Zurich branch of the Wiener Werkstätte just after the New York branch closed, shows a mix of organic and stylized classical elements.

It is credited Lent by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Purchase, Edward C. Moore Jr. Gift, 1924 (24.242.2).
