This is a Jacket, pants, headpiece, and collar. It was designed by Carmen W. Muhammad and made for Al Nisa Designs.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco as part of Contemporary Muslim Fashions.

It is dated 2017. Its medium is wool, silk, faux fur. It is a part of the department.

Carmen Muhammad began designing and making her own clothes at the age of fifteen, when she converted to the Nation of Islam. After decades of working in business, she launched her fashion company in the mid-1980s. Her designs are modernized versions of the tailored ensembles traditionally worn by women of the Nation of Islam.
