Life On Wheels, Interviews, 2018

These interviews are excerpted from the forthcoming film Life on Wheels, which brings together some of the world’s transportation experts for a fresh conversation about an entire industry and infrastructure on the edge of disruption. Akin to the computer industry during the 1980s, new mobility technologies are coming online faster than people can figure out how to apply them. No one knows the rules yet, but these videos give insight and urgency to the transformation.

An image from a sound installation showing existing urban planning of the Cooper Hewitt Museum, Sacred Heart School and other buildings in atmospheric perspective where fog blurs the urban landscape in grayscale situated right of center and east of Fifth Avenue looking north. All imagery is rendered in one-point perspective to show the illusion of depth. Large trees taller than the buildings hover over Fifth Avenue from the west side of Fifth Avenue also in grayscale. A bus shelter on the west side protects riders from extreme weather as well as informing them of the status of bus locations in real-time using a computerized map and analog clock. Pedestrian sidewalk traffic and bike lane traffic representing mobility on the west side of Fifth Avenue as well as the unlined street are rendered in tints, tones and shades of brown. Pedestrian, bus and car traffic representing mobility in the center and on the east side of Fifth Avenue are rendered in tints, tones and shades of orange, white and black using contour lines for a flattened effect of imagery. The use of different colors and effects divide the image into existing urban planning and future options for mobility. Colors are an engaging contrast to grayscale.
