On-Demand Drone Delivery System, 2016

This is a On-Demand Drone Delivery System. It was designed by Zipline. It is dated 2016. Its medium is carbon fiber, aluminum, foam; parachute: wax paper, paper tape, cardboard. It is a part of the department.

The Zipline drone was designed for on-demand deliveries of life-saving medicines to health centers, ensuring immediate access to fresh blood, insulin and vaccines, which spoil if not used in a timely manner. The drone flies more than 75 miles on a single battery and in 2018, Zipline began partnering with the government of Rwanda on low-cost, last-mile blood deliveries.

Photograph of a drone with six rotors shown afloat near a coniferous tree. The drone is white with a blue stripe and the inscription “HorseFly” both laterally and on the underside. Each rotor is mounted horizontally at the center of a circular guard to which it is connected through three arms. The six rotor guards are aligned like the vertices of a hexagon. The center of the hexagon is solid and on its underside holds small electronic devices as well as supporting a black hexagonal wire structure that also connects with the midpoints between adjacent rotor guards and extends downwards.

Close up photograph of a self-driving delivery robot on a paved road lined by trees and street lights. No other vehicles or people are visible and the impression is that the robot is in a pedestrian area or park. The device has simple, elegant, rounded lines. Its main body, resembling a box or ice cooler, is shiny white, with a downward curved white lid and a black trim. In the front, just below the lid, there is an array of cameras behind a transparent plastic shield. Further down, on the side, there is an array of what appear to be five LED lights. The robot has six black wheels, three on each side, with a yellow trim near the edge. In the front right corner, one black pole, possibly an antenna, extends vertically for approximately 2.5 times the height of the robot, and is topped by a red flag. The flag seems to be made of a hard material such as plastic or metal.
