Necklace, Jungle Scenery 2, from the Jungle collection

This is a necklace. It was designed by Terhi Tolvanen.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Susan Beech as part of Beauty—Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial.

It is dated 2014. Its medium is ivy wood, prasiolite, silver, paint.

Tolvanen combines ivywood, prasiolite, silver, and paint to evoke feelings of both harmony and discord in this organically shaped necklace. The delicate prasiolite is anchored to the ivywood in a manner that is both strong and tenuous. The pale green coloring of the piece suggests both a connection to nature and a cool detachment from its expected representation.

It is credited Courtesy of Susan Beech and Ornamentum Gallery.
