Lamp, Daffodil, 1899–1910
This is a lamp. It was overseen (as design director) by Louis Comfort Tiffany and produced by Tiffany & Co..
This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from The Collection of Richard H. Driehaus, Chicago as part of Passion for the Exotic: Louis Comfort Tiffany and Lockwood de Forest.
In the late nineteenth century as power increasingly reached American households, Tiffany added electrifiedtable lamps to his production line. Bases were worked in the metal foundry while in the workshop artisans assembled leaded-glass shades on wooden forms indicating thearrangement of the glass. This shade features daffodils cascading toward a geometric border.

![A width of cotton textile printed with a repeating pattern of wavy vertical bands filled with flowers, in soft springtime greens and yellows. There are four bands across the fabric, each bordered with a little white-flowered vine. Shoots of small pale blue flowers with dark green leaves grow out from this vine into the bands at each side, to interlace with curving bunches of yellow-chartreuse and white daffodil flowers nodding on long pale green stems. Below the daffodils, a white tulip-shaped motif patterned with a yellow-green leafy vine weaves around the vine border. From top to bottom, the horizontal pattern is blue flowers, daffodils, tulip motif, and then the pattern repeats again.
