Double Cylinder Pendant Necklace

This is a necklace. It was designed by Sandra Enterline. It is dated 2008 and we acquired it in 2016. Its medium is fabricated oxidized sterling silver, hand drilled and perforated yellow gold and stainless steel. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Enterline's perforation technique in the pendants of this necklace results in an intense glow in the gold and silver surfaces. In this combination of metal and light, Enterline creates pieces of art that seem imbue with the essential elements of nature, as her work blurs the lines between what is man-made, and what is found in the earth.

This object was donated by Susan Lewin. It is credited The Susan Grant Lewin Collection, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.

An iron and wood candle holder. The base is bell-shaped piece of dark brown wood. Anchored in the base, a flat, brown-black iron strip winds up in a hollow vertical spiral with a narrow space between each revolution, ending in a tapered hook at the top. Halfway up, a small spiral-end pin projects from the gap between the iron strip.
