Ellen Lupton graduated from Cooper Union College in 1985. In 1997, she became director of the Master of Fine Arts program at the Maryland Institute College of Art. Lupton is also a curator at the Cooper-Hewitt and a writer, having authored numerous design and typography books. In 2007, she was awarded the AIGA Gold Medal.
