Georg Jensen Sølvsmedie

Danish silversmith Georg Jensen inherited his father's skills and practice as an artisan and cutler. Jensen was apprenticed to a goldsmith at age 14 and then trained as a sculptor at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He was awarded a traveling scholarship that supported his travels to France and Italy. He founded his silversmithing firm Georg Jensen Sølvsmedie in Copenhagen in 1904, and discovered his first success with jewelry, quickly becoming one of the leading European silversmiths. His style was characterized by organic themes, controlled oxidation, hammered surfaces, and the delicate and balanced use of solids and voids.
