Zandra Rhodes was first introduced to the world of fashion by her mother, who was a fitter for the Paris fashion House of Worth and later a lecturer at Medway College of Art in Kent. Rhodes studied printing textile design at Medway College and then at the Royal College of Art in London. Her initial textile designs were considered too outrageous for traditional British manufacturers to produce, so Rhodes decided to make her own fabrics. She used specially printed textiles as an intrinsic part of the garments she designed. In 1967 Rhodes opened her first store, The Fulham Road Clothes Shop in London, with Sylvia Ayton. This is a colorful textile design featuring a paisley pattern in yellow, orange, purple, cobalt blue, lime green, white, black, and grey gouache on coral pink paper. The teardrop-shaped paisleys are different sizes and colors, and are evenly scattered across the page in different orientations. The paisleys are patterned with squiggly lines inside long pointed shapes, giving them spiky edges. Grey diagonal lines emerge from the paisley motifs, and grey small squares or cubes, with small diagonal lines radiating from them, are scattered between the paisleys. The design shows various process marks. A strip along the left edge is taped to the main sheet. Near the upper left corner, an area of the background is squiggle-patterned white. The upper right corner is cut away in a curve, hugging the nearby paisley. Near the bottom left corner there is a white bean-shape, as if a paisley has been cut out or painted over. Various white labels, inscriptions, and a black stamp annotate the drawing.

A light blue background with small, black squiggly lines throughout forms the backdrop of this textile. Large, tear-drop shapes are spread out, some appearing in full, some cut off by the textile's boundary. They are comprised of smaller, narrow shapes, like a short pencil with both sides sharpened.The tip of either side is dark red, surrounded by a small section of yellow.

Textile printed with scattered paisleys and a paisley border on the left edge. The teardrop-shaped paisleys are composed of long pointed shapes filled with squiggly lines; the pointed shapes create a spiky outer edge. The paisleys are a mix of different sizes and colors: orange, aqua, green, red-brown, pink-purple, pale yellow, light blue. Little faceted squares inside each paisley match the light blue faceted squares scattered between them. Light blue diagonal lines shoot out from the paisleys, over the background of squiggly beige lines on purple-blue. The border on the left is of medium-small paisleys in alternate facings on a solid purple-ble background. The colors and shapes of these paisleys are like those in the scattered print, with little squares and diagonal lines between them.
