Nadia Benois was a painter and a stage designer. She came from a wealthy European family of artists and architects. She graduated from the St. Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts and worked for the Imperial Mariinsky Opera House. In 1920, she moved to London where she began exhibiting her work and designing sets for ballets and operas, and worked as a costume designer for two of her son’s films.
