Matthew Andrew Daly was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on January 13, 1860. He studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy and hte McMicken School of Design. Daly was one of the first decorators to join Rookwood Pottery in 1882. he remained at Rookwood Pottery until 1903. He was a member of the Cincinnati Art Club, of which he was both a charter member and president, as well as a member of the Artists' Professional League.
