David A. Carter

Beginning in 1980 David Carter, an American author and illustrator, was employed as an artist, paper engineer, and book designer for the publishing house Intervisual Communications Inc. (ICI). Working with creative director Jim Diaz, and a variety of other artists, Carter learned the fine art of paper engineering and pop-up book making. In 1987, Carter left ICI and began his own business, commencing with the publication, How Many Bugs in a Box?. Since that time, Carter has created more than 70 pop-up books. The master paper engineer is acclaimed for his use of color, shape, and surface.
