Liverpool businessman Norman Macdermott founded the Everyman Theater in 1920, in a converted drill hall in the Hampstead neighborhood of London. In 1926, Malcolm Morely succeeded him as director of productions. Both men promoted literary and experimental productions, as well as foreign plays in translation.
