Aliki van der Kruijs has a studio in The Hague, the Netherlands and works on self-initiated research projects, collaborations and commissions. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion at ArtEZ University of Visual Arts (Arnhem) and her master's degree in Applied Art at the Dirty Art Department of the Sandberg Instituut (Amsterdam). In one of her projects at the Sandberg Instituut, she juxtaposed her background in graphic design, photography and fashion design with research into the way textiles can be a means of communication and a meaningful framework to highlight the relationship between humans and nature. Three monochromatic textiles hanging from separate wooden poles displaying similar cohesive designs all reminiscent of microbes and blood cells when seen under a microscope. The designs are, in fact, caused by rain drops on an ultramarine blue ground in various tints and shades in an organic composition.

A custom blue color chart on silk from Pantone in a grid pattern with water stains in each center. Each square is a different shade of blue, including white to black saturation. Color signifiers are finely printed at the top and base of the silk, above the colored grids.
